GNK Dinamo Zagreb has officially signed forward Mounsef Bakrar from New York City FC. The Algerian returns to Croatia, where he previously played for NK Istra, now joining the reigning HNL champions, who finished last season top of the table with 86 points (27 wins, 5 draws, 4 losses) and an 18-point lead over HNK Hajduk Split.

What does Bakrar bring to Dinamo?

Bakrar made 70 appearances for NYCFC across all competitions, scoring 10 goals, including a winner in last season’s Hudson River Derby. His arrival is set to bolster Dinamo’s attack, which scored 93 goals and conceded just 28 last season-the best defensive record in the league.

How did the clubs react?

NYCFC Sporting Director David Lee thanked Bakrar for his contributions: “Mounsef brought great energy and work ethic every day. We believe this transfer is best for all parties.” Bakrar, meanwhile, stated that playing for NYCFC was an incredible experience but is now focused on his new challenge in Zagreb.

What’s next for Dinamo?

With the new season yet to begin, Dinamo will have time to integrate Bakrar into the squad. The club finished last season with a DWWWW run of form and now looks to strengthen for upcoming domestic and European challenges.
