GNK Dinamo Zagreb has completed the signing of Smail Prevljak from Istra 1961, bringing the Bosnian-Herzegovinian striker to Maksimir as the first replacement for club top scorer Dion Drena Belju. Dinamo paid Istra 1961 €800,000 for the 27-year-old attacker, who scored 15 goals last season, including 14 in the HNL.

How did the transfer happen?

Exclusively for Sport Klub, the Blues reacted swiftly to the injury of Brazilian Junior Brumado, who had previously signed a pre-contract with Dinamo. Brumado suffered a serious knee injury at Danish side Midtjylland and will miss the rest of the year, making Prevljak an urgent signing. The deal was closed quickly, with the €800,000 fee also covering Prevljak’s free exit from Berlin’s Hertha last summer.

What does Prevljak bring?

Smail Prevljak is no stranger to the HNL. The Bosnian-Herzegovinian international has 27 caps and six goals for Bosnia and Herzegovina. His experience and attacking output - 14 HNL goals last season - make him the ideal reinforcement for Dinamo at a time when Belju carries the heaviest attacking load. Prevljak is also known for his physicality and aerial presence in the box, giving Dinamo another weapon up front.

Brumado’s fate and January plans

Despite the injury, Junior Brumado will still join Dinamo in January, immediately after his Midtjylland contract expires. The Brazilian had previously agreed a pre-contract with Maksimir, and the knee injury only delayed his arrival. Dinamo meanwhile secured Prevljak as a short-term fix, but Brumado’s January move brings long-term firepower to an attack already setting high standards.

Dinamo in the HNL: current standing

Dinamo currently sit 1st in the HNL with 0 points, and the new signings are meant to secure their competitiveness throughout the league campaign. With Prevljak in attack and Brumado joining in January, the Blues have a plan for every phase of the season. The transfer is another sign of Dinamo’s quick reactions to injuries and their ability to secure quality reinforcements despite unpredictable situations.
