GNK Dinamo Zagreb is once again linked to former right-back Stefan Ristovski after the 34-year-old terminated his contract with FK Sarajevo. According to reports from Bosnian media, Ristovski missed a friendly against Radnik Hadžići due to his free-agent status, further confirming the end of his stint at the Koševo-based club. An official announcement on the termination is expected in the coming days, after which Ristovski will be free to join his next club.

What happened to Ristovski at FK Sarajevo?

Bosnian outlets cite underwhelming performances as the reason FK Sarajevo’s management opted for a different solution in defense. Despite his vast international experience and numerous European appearances, Ristovski failed to meet expectations. His exit was further signaled by his absence from the Radnik match, played behind closed doors. Once the contract is formally terminated, the 34-year-old will become a free agent and can sign for a new club without a transfer fee.

Ristovski’s trophy-laden spell at GNK Dinamo Zagreb

Ristovski made 185 official appearances for GNK Dinamo Zagreb, scoring seven goals and providing 21 assists. Including friendlies, his tally rises to 206. His arrival at Maksimir in spring 2021 coincided with one of the club’s greatest nights: overturning a deficit against Tottenham in the Europa League return leg to win 3-0 and reach the quarter-finals. Over four and a half seasons in Zagreb, he collected four Croatian league titles (2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24), two Croatian Cups (2020/21, 2023/24) and two SuperCups (2022, 2023). He was also named to the SuperSport HNL Team of the Season for three straight campaigns.

What’s next for the 34-year-old full-back?

Before joining Dinamo, Ristovski built his career at Vardar, Parma, Rijeka and Sporting CP. In Rijeka he won the league and cup double in 2017, while at Sporting he lifted two Portuguese League Cups and the 2019 domestic cup. His exit from FK Sarajevo raises the question of where he will continue his career. Given his age and experience, options include a return to the HNL or a move abroad. GNK Dinamo Zagreb currently tops the Croatian league with 86 points and 27 wins from 36 games in the final 2025 table, sitting 18 points clear of runners-up HNK Hajduk Split.
