Dinamo has confirmed its place in the play-off round of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Kaunas. The Zagreb-based team has passed the Lithuanians with a total of 7-1, and the last obstacle to the group stage of the strongest European club competition will be the Norwegian Viking.
In addition to the great sporting success, the passage of Kaunas has brought significant financial security to Dinamo. According to the calculation of the specialized site Football Meets Data, Dinamo has secured at least 14.5 million euros in UEFA awards with its entry into the play-off round of the Champions League.
Dinamo's millions in the bank
It is essential to explain what this amount means. The same plasman in play-off Dinamu guarantees that it will play at least the group stage of the Europa League this fall. If it beats Viking, it will play the Champions League, and if it loses, it will automatically move to the Europa League.
In the worst financial scenario, namely a defeat by Viking, UEFA will pay 4.29 million euros to clubs that fall in the play-off round of the Champions League. Entry into the group stage of the Europa League brings an additional 4.31 million euros in initial payments. To this is added the money from the so-called Value Pillar, which depends on the television market and the European coefficient of the club.
Football Meets Data estimates that Dinamo's guaranteed minimum now amounts to around 14.5 million euros. This is the money that the club has secured by simply reaching the last qualifying obstacle, regardless of the outcome of the match against Viking.
The Champions League brings a much higher amount
Of course, the passage of Viking would significantly increase Dinamo's earnings. UEFA pays 18.62 million euros to each of the 36 participants in the group stage of the Champions League. On this amount, only the earnings from the Value Pillar and the awards for the results are added.
Each victory in the group stage of the Champions League is worth an additional 2.1 million euros, while each draw is worth 700,000 euros. Clubs also receive money depending on their final position in the group stage and additional bonuses for advancing to the knockout stage.
Dinamo has thus secured a significant European income and at least eight matches in the group stage of the Europa League by passing Kaunas. Against Viking, it will play for a place among the European elite, but also for a financial boost that could take its fall European income far beyond the current guaranteed 14.5 million euros.
Now Dinamo is 4th in the HNL with 3 points, 1 win, 0 draws, and 0 losses, and has won its last match 2-1. Dinamo is 3 points behind the league leader NK Osijek. This season, Dinamo has scored 2 goals and conceded 0, with a +2 goal difference. Now Dinamo is in the fight for the HNL title, but still has a lot of work to do to secure the first place.
