GNK Dinamo Zagreb has rejected a major offer for their star striker Dion Drena Beljo during the summer transfer window. The player's manager, Srđan Lakić, confirmed this week to Index.hr Sport that an offer arrived from the Belgian Pro League, but the club decided to keep their key attacker.
Srđan Lakić stated they discussed the offer with the club. "The offer was substantial, but I wouldn't communicate more than that since the club hasn't gone public with it either," said the former Croatian international. Dinamo's decision to reject the bid speaks volumes about their plans for the season.
Dinamo Zagreb currently sits third in the HNL with 10 points from four matches. The team has recorded three wins and one draw, and in the next round visits second-placed Osijek. In this context, losing their leading scorer would be a significant blow to the club's ambitions.
Beljo scored an incredible 38 goals in 48 appearances last season. This season he has already netted 8 goals in 10 matches, making him one of the most productive forwards in the league. According to Transfermarkt data, his market value stands at 12 million euros. The player has a contract with Dinamo until summer 2030, giving the club a strong negotiating position.
Lakić commented on the club's stance: "We talked about that offer. When a club has such a position that it's not ready to let go of its main player for such an offer, then that says enough about how much the club values the player and how important he is to them. I consider that a compliment for Dion."
Dinamo has started the season solidly, with three wins and one draw in the first four rounds. The team has scored 11 goals while conceding only three, resulting in a positive goal difference of +8. They currently trail leaders Varazdin by three points in the title race.
Retaining Beljo is important for maintaining competitiveness at this stage of the competition. The player has become the attacking cornerstone and his presence will be of great importance in the difficult away match against Osijek on September 12.
Dion Drena Beljo, born in 1997, came through several Croatian clubs before arriving at Dinamo. He played for Cibalia, Osijek and Istra 1961, then went abroad where he featured for Augsburg and Rapid Vienna. For the Croatian national team he has two appearances but hasn't scored yet.
His manager, Srđan Lakić, is a well-known former Croatian footballer who had a successful career in domestic and foreign clubs. Lakić now guides the young striker's career and helped him decide to stay at Dinamo for at least one more season.
Dinamo's president, Zvonimir Boban, clearly sees Beljo as a key player for the club's future. Rejecting a significant offer shows the club believes in his potential and wants to keep him as part of long-term plans. This season's squad lineup can be viewed on the player roster page.
Keeping their leading scorer gives Dinamo a major advantage in the title race. The team currently trails leaders Varazdin by three points, but has a player who can deliver victories in important moments. Beljo's goalscoring abilities will be particularly important in matches against direct competitors.
Dinamo has shown good defensive organization this season, conceding only three goals in four matches. The combination of solid defense and a productive forward like Beljo could be decisive in the championship battle. The current HNL standings can be checked on the league table page.
Beljo has decided to remain at Dinamo and continue his development at a club that shows him great trust. His contract is valid for another four seasons, providing stability for both player and club. GNK Dinamo Zagreb visits NK Osijek on September 12, 2026 in an important top-of-the-table clash.
