GNK Dinamo Zagreb has strengthened its goalkeeping position with the signing of Dominik Kotarski. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has arrived on loan from Danish side Copenhagen. Kotarski's deal includes an option for a permanent transfer at the season's end, with Dinamo paying a loan fee reported to be around half a million euros.
The club currently sits third in the HNL table with 10 points from four matches, recording three wins and one draw. They have scored 11 goals and conceded three, giving them a +8 goal difference. They trail leaders NK Osijek by two points.
Dinamo attempted to bring back Dominik Livaković during the summer, but he joined Barcelona instead. Kotarski was therefore identified as the long-term solution for the number one goalkeeper spot. Although he was the first choice at Copenhagen, he chose to return to the club where he developed. "I am truly happy and excited, I am finally home. Dinamo has always been my club, since childhood, my only football love," said Kotarski. His development began in the club's youth academy eight years ago.
Dominik Kotarski was born in 2000. After leaving Dinamo's academy, he played for Ajax, then Goricu, and Greek side PAOK with whom he won a championship. Last season he was the starting goalkeeper for Copenhagen. He now returns to Maksimir and will wear the number 24 jersey. His experience in different leagues is considered valuable for a squad competing for the title.
Dinamo's defence has been solid so far, conceding only three goals in four rounds. Kotarski's task will be to maintain that level. The club's current position on the standings shows the title race is tight, with Osijek at the top. Kotarski stated: "Dinamo is not a club you turn down, it is my club, I want to achieve great things here, win trophies..." His adaptation will be key for success in the upcoming matches.
The exact transfer fee has not been disclosed, but reports indicate Dinamo is paying around €500,000 for the loan. This investment shows confidence in Kotarski as a long-term player.
