Dinamo Zagreb coach Mario Kovačević has set a clear target for Sunday's home match against Lokomotiva: a victory to send the team positively into the three-week SuperSport HNL break. The eighth-round fixture kicks off at 8 PM at Maksimir Stadium, just before the pause for international duty.

Speaking at a press conference, Kovačević highlighted the team's character following a 0-0 draw with Hapoel Bucharest in the Europa League four days earlier. "We're fighting, we have a positive approach and we want to welcome the three-week break with a victory," the coach said. He added that the squad is not in ideal condition but is battling and showing heart, which leaves him with no doubts about his players.

Squad state and break plans

The coach spoke openly about changes in the squad, noting that some players have left, some have joined, and some are not yet ready or are out of form. New signings will need time to integrate and become genuine reinforcements, he said. He has experience with such situations from other clubs and is convinced Dinamo will emerge from this period better and stronger.

The break will be used for fitness work and refreshing players who need it. Kovačević is proud that the team now has many internationals, unlike last year, and will work with fitness coaches on a good plan to maximise this period.

The opponent and player availability

He described Lokomotiva as a demanding opponent on an upward trajectory, reminding that they drew their last match even though Rijeka was better. Matches against them are always difficult, but Kovačević believes Dinamo has more quality.

Regarding individual availability, the coach confirmed that Dion Drena Beljo and Stjepan Radeljić should be ready to play. Lukas Kačavenda is out of action. Beljo is key for Dinamo's attack, with 7 goals in 5 appearances this season making him the league's top scorer. The whole team currently sits third in the HNL with 10 points from 4 games, two points behind leaders Osijek. The title race can be followed in detail on our standings page.

Relationship with management and pressure

Kovačević revealed he speaks daily with president Zvonimir Boban, which he considers the best thing for a coach. "I talk with the president daily, and that's the best thing for a coach. I don't feel the slightest pressure," he stated. He feels pressure only from his own desire to improve and is proud of what the team has achieved in a year with the new squad.

Dinamo returns from travel on Thursday and will have two training sessions before the Lokomotiva match. The European draw was important, as every point in Europe counts. After Sunday, the next engagement is on October 17th away to Slaven Belupo, who currently sit 9th. The upcoming schedule can always be checked on fixtures. Kovačević is confident his team will handle the current challenges and emerge stronger, starting with Sunday's battle at Maksimir.
