GNK Dinamo Zagreb has been sanctioned by UEFA with a partial stadium closure and a financial penalty for an incident during a European match. The decision was made by UEFA's Appeals Body.
UEFA activated a conditional disciplinary measure originally imposed by the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 11 December 2024. The trigger was the use of pyrotechnics during a Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund. As a result, for Dinamo's next UEFA-sanctioned home match, half of the lower tier of the north stand at Stadion Maksimir will be closed. The club must also pay a total fine of €40,000.
The closure will be applied to the first subsequent European match Dinamo hosts at Maksimir. It specifically targets half of the lower north stand, significantly reducing available seating for supporters. In its official statement, UEFA noted this measure is conditional with a probation period of two years. Any further disciplinary breach within this timeframe could lead to additional sanctions.
The club is near the top of the HNL table. The current squad, featuring key players like Luka Ivanušec and Marko Bulat, is listed on our squad page.
The total monetary fine is €40,000. Half of this amount, €20,000, relates to the breach that activated the old conditional punishment. The remaining €20,000 is an additional fine for the same incident. This is not the first time the club has faced financial sanctions from European football's governing body.
The two-year probation period means UEFA will closely monitor fan and club behaviour at all European fixtures. Dinamo has extensive experience in European competitions, achieving a notable group stage placement in the 2025/26 Europa League. Any new incident involving pyrotechnics or other offences would immediately trigger sanctions.
The club must now focus on upcoming challenges. The first opportunity for the closure to be enforced will be at the next European home match. Dinamo's next domestic cup fixture at home is scheduled for 1 October against NK Varaždin.
