GNK Dinamo Zagreb has surpassed 70,000 members and friends of the club for the first time in its history. The milestone was reached by August 3rd this year, a full 150 days earlier than at the same point last season.
The club had 65,243 members at the end of the previous year, meaning it has gained nearly five thousand new supporters in the first seven months of 2026. Of the total, approximately 59,900 are from Croatia and 10,100 are from abroad. The largest contingents come from Zagreb (28,108), Zagreb County (7,737), and Međimurje County (2,465). For context, Dinamo had only about 8,000 members in 2010, and the long-standing record from 1982 was 42,000.
Membership and fan backlash
Annual membership costs 20 euros for adults under 65 and 10 euros for minors and those over 65. Members receive benefits including first-purchase rights for derby and European match tickets, discounts in club stores, and free tickets for select matches.
This historic record was set ahead of Thursday's UEFA Europa League match against Anderlecht at Maksimir. However, many fans used the announcement on social media to voice frustration with the team's current sporting situation. Dinamo currently sits third in the HNL with 16 points, three behind leaders Hajduk Split, following a 2-1 away loss to them last weekend.
Supporters criticised head coach Mario Kovačević, whose departure is being increasingly demanded after a series of poor performances. They also slammed the proposal for a new stadium. "70,000 people for a new modern stadium, not that cardboard box of a hole!" fans said. Others added, "70,000 reasons for Kovačević to leave."
Current context and the road ahead
Dinamo is facing a challenging period in the league, with recent results showing inconsistency (LWLWD). The next task is an away fixture against 7th-placed NK Slaven Belupo on Saturday, October 17th.
Despite the strong fan backing evidenced by the record membership, pressure on the club's board and technical staff is mounting. Maintaining this level of engagement will hinge on improving results on the pitch. The current league standings can be followed in the official standings.
