Since Sergio Garcia took over Hajduk Split, the club has been defeated in derbies by both Rijeka and Dinamo Zagreb. This fact was highlighted by former Rijeka coach Radomir Đalović, analysing the current situation in the HNL and emphasising the psychological advantage awaiting Dinamo at Poljud.
Radomir Đalović, who won the double with Rijeka in the 2024/25 season, commented on Hajduk's recent 3:0 loss to Rijeka. "Since Garcia became coach, both Rijeka and Dinamo have beaten them in derbies," said Đalović. This is a concerning trend for the Split side, especially as they lost their last meeting with Dinamo at Poljud 1:3 back on 8 March this year.
Psychological edge for Dinamo
Dinamo currently lead the HNL table with 16 points from seven games, while Hajduk sit second. The upcoming derby at Poljud on 10 October will be a key test for both teams. Đalović believes that match will be a serious indicator of Hajduk's form after their heavy defeat to Rijeka. Dinamo enter the fixture in good spirits following a 3:2 win over Lokomotiva last weekend, where Dario Beljo scored twice, confirming his status as the league's top scorer with nine goals.
Đalović also praised Matjaž Kek's work with Rijeka, saying his results against Hajduk deserve respect. Simultaneously, he criticised Hajduk's defensive errors in the loss to Rijeka, particularly involving Rona Racija, and questioned whether Dantas was offside in the build-up to the first conceded goal. For Đalović, it is clear that Rijeka have the quality to fight for the title this season alongside Hajduk and Dinamo.
Tough schedule for the Split side
The former coach also noted that Hajduk will have a difficult schedule due to European commitments, which could affect their league focus. Dinamo also play in Europe, but their recent HNL form is solid, three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five matches.
Đalović touched on the topic of Toni Fruk, believing he will return to top form after a brief dip possibly influenced by transfer rumours. He ended by expressing hope that Hajduk would show good play at Poljud, but it is clear Dinamo have both historical and current statistics on their side. The squad list and detailed player stats are available on the squad page.
The derby at Poljud on 10 October will be an opportunity for Dinamo to confirm their dominance in this rivalry and strengthen their lead at the top of the table. The current league standings can always be checked on the standings page.
