GNK Dinamo Zagreb has redirected €70,000 from the proceeds of a match against Viking to aid victims of a major fire that hit Omiš and Lokve Rogoznice in mid-July. The club donated the funds following a 2:2 draw at Maksimir in the domestic Europa League play-off, though Viking progressed 5:3 on aggregate.
The club stated in an official message that it thanks all fans who by coming to the match became part of this joint gesture of solidarity, and especially the firefighters, members of emergency services and volunteers who bravely protected people, their homes and property. The fire caused significant damage.
Dinamo emphasised this action is part of the club's broader ethos. The message reads that to Omiš and all those affected by the fire, they send a message bigger than football, a message of support that they always lead with at Dinamo: No surrender! This act of solidarity comes as the team tops the HNL table, with focus turning to an upcoming major derby.
Dinamo currently leads the league after a win over Lokomotiva last weekend, with the next challenge being an away match against second-placed Hajduk. While sporting ambitions have shifted to the Europa League, the club has shown its role in the community is equally important.
This donation continues the club's tradition of supporting the community in difficult times, regardless of on-pitch results. Dinamo now returns to preparations for the derby with Hajduk, where they will aim to maintain their league leadership.
